Romans 13:11 ESV
Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed.
Romans 13:11 carries a sense of spiritual urgency. Paul reminds us that we cannot afford to drift through our faith: “The hour has come for you to wake from sleep.” Each passing day brings us closer to the fulfillment of God’s promises, so today matters. There are opportunities to love, serve, forgive, obey, and share Christ that we should not assume will still be available tomorrow.
This verse is also a call to examine whether we are spiritually awake. Have comfort, routine, distraction, or discouragement caused us to become passive? God calls us to live alert to His presence and responsive to His purposes. Because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed, we should live with greater—not lesser—devotion.
Reflection: Lord, keep me spiritually awake. Help me recognize the opportunities You place before me today and live with the urgency, faithfulness, and purpose of someone who knows that every day belongs to You.
