Malachi 3:5 ESV
Then I will draw near to you for judgment. I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, against the adulterers, against those who swear falsely, against those who oppress the hired worker in his wages, the widow and the fatherless, against those who thrust aside the sojourner, and do not fear me, says the Lord of hosts.
Malachi 3:5 presents God as a righteous Judge who sees what people may overlook—dishonesty, unfaithfulness, exploitation, and the mistreatment of those who are vulnerable. God specifically calls attention to workers, widows, orphans, and foreigners, reminding us that genuine reverence for Him must influence how we treat others.
This verse challenges us not to separate faith from everyday conduct. Worshiping God involves more than what we say or do at church; it shows up in our integrity, relationships, business dealings, compassion, and willingness to defend those who may have little power.
Practical application: Ask yourself today: Does the way I treat people reflect that I truly fear and honor God? Look for an opportunity to act with honesty, fairness, compassion, or generosity—especially toward someone who cannot repay you.
Prayer: Lord, help me to honor You not only with my words but through integrity, compassion, and justice toward others. Give me eyes to notice those who may be overlooked and a heart willing to respond. In Jesus name, Amen.
