Proverbs 14:31 ESV

Whoever oppresses a poor man insults his Maker, but he who is generous to the needy honors him.

Proverbs 14:31 reminds us that the way we treat people—especially those who are poor, vulnerable, or in need—is directly connected to how we honor God.

Every person bears the dignity of being created by God. When we dismiss, exploit, or look down on someone because of their circumstances, we dishonor their Creator. But when we respond with compassion, generosity, patience, and respect, we honor God Himself.

This verse challenges us to see people not through the lens of status, wealth, or usefulness, but through God’s eyes. Compassion is more than feeling sympathy; it moves us to notice needs and respond when we are able.

Daily application: Ask God today to help you recognize someone who may feel overlooked or burdened. A kind word, a listening ear, practical help, or simple generosity can become an act of worship.

Prayer: Lord, help me to see others as You see them. Give me a compassionate heart that treats every person with dignity and responds generously to those in need. May the way I treat others bring honor to You. In Jesus name, Amen.
