Proverbs 13:3 ESV
Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.
This proverb reminds us that our words have the power to protect relationships or damage them, to encourage others or cause unnecessary pain. Wisdom is not simply knowing what to say, but also discerning when to speak and when to remain silent. Guarding our words requires humility, patience, and self-control—qualities that reflect a heart being shaped by God.
Personal Application: Before speaking, especially in moments of frustration or disagreement, pause and consider whether your words will honor God and build others up. Sometimes the greatest demonstration of wisdom is choosing restraint over reaction.
Prayer: Lord, help me to be intentional with my words, quick to listen, and slow to speak. Give me wisdom to know when to speak and the humility to remain silent when necessary. May my words consistently reflect Your grace, truth, and love. In Jesus name, Amen.
